A few simple steps will free you from running your doctrine tasks from the command line.

Still Alive… Car? Not so much.

Abruptly (as most accidents seem to happen) everyone decided it'd be fun to stop as fast as possible. I slammed on my brakes and slid my Nissan Altima into a Mazda 626.

C&C Red Alert 3 Custom Map Location on Vista

Posted 2008-12-21 20:31:09 by James at sproif.com

I downloaded a bunch of maps from the C&C forums, but when I put them where I was told, they weren't showing up in game.  That's because, on vista, you have to put them: C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Red Alert 3\Maps The AppData folder may be hidden, so you'll have to go unhide it first.

Red Alert 3 - It’s fun being in command.

Posted 2008-12-15 07:29:43 by James at sproif.com

I love it. How's that for a review? I've always enjoyed the Command & Conquer series.  I played the crap out of Red Alert 2 almost as much as I played Blizzard's Starcraft (and believe me, that's saying something...)  While Red Alert 3 has been great so far, there are a few things I hope they can [...]

An Open Apology to President-Elect Obama

Posted 2008-11-05 16:17:38 by James at sproif.com

I'm sorry. I'm sorry you've successfully completed your campaign. I'm sorry for what the Obama family will now be subjected to... Enemy #1 of any president is the sensory-overloading, ratings-focused news media system.  Irregardless (if you watch the news, you know why that's a joke) of whether this pro-Obama stance keeps going not, something is going to take [...]

Plumbing - Ur doin it wrong!

Posted 2008-09-09 17:52:54 by admin at sproif.com

Wow.  Just wow.  Images first, description later.   Click the images to see the FAIL in all its full-size glory. Yes. That is what you think it is. Apparently when you rent a place that has a claw-foot bathtub, you can't have separate hot and cold knobs. So the landlord sent in a "handyman" to [...]

Subversion Update Builder - Learning Python

Posted 2008-09-07 00:34:25 by admin at sproif.com

Ok, so I'm back.  It's been a while. I've decided I would like to jump on the Python bandwagon.  I've been living the Ubuntu life for a while now, so I figured I should make myself at home... Whenever I learn a new language, I need a pet project.  I'm not one that can learn just by [...]

Mininova.org RSS/Autodownload and KTorrent on Ubuntu = Ultimate Torrent Setup

Posted 2008-07-09 23:07:47 by admin at sproif.com

Everybody wants to be able to download a file at the spur of the moment.  Mininova.org just made it a ton easier to set it up to be completely automatic.  They call it Bookmarking and Remote Downloading.  I'm going to detail my current setup. WARNING!!! I'm assuming you're going to use this for indie/underground music.  This is [...]

Linux - A quick update: Avant Window Navigator and Kiba-Dock

Posted 2008-06-05 03:48:52 by admin at sproif.com

So, I'm still chillin here with my ubuntu install.  It's going pretty swell..  My quest/quandary now is to find some kind of "Mac OSX-type dock" for Ubuntu.  I've installed Avant Window Navigator but found it to be too finicky/buggy/picky for my tastes.  Today I tried to install kiba-dock, but Ubuntu hated it.  It threw up [...]

Mario Kart - Yes, it is that good…

Posted 2008-06-03 02:14:04 by admin at sproif.com

I broke down and picked up Mario Kart the other day.  While IGN rates it high and follows that with praise after praise, I would like to append a few of my own gripes. 1.  Blue Shell Everyone complains about the blue shell, even IGN and XKCD does, but that won't stop me.  You can be [...]

Me vs. Linux - Round 2

Posted 2008-06-02 21:09:41 by admin at sproif.com

Ok, I'm back, and the penguin and I are going head to head again. I still want to make the change over to Linux full time, but I just keep reverting to Windows due to the familiarity.  But not anymore.  I've instituted a "no windows in my house" rule.  So, while my machine is still dual [...]

Proof positive.

Looks like Google is losing the battle…

Has anyone seen this <sarcasm> extremely awesome song </sarcasm>? Teyana Taylor - Google Me [Link to the Video (direct embed of the music video is disabled)] Well, according to Google, they would like people to stop using their brand name as a verb. "We think it's important to make the distinction between using the word 'Google' to describe using [...]

Hey! That’s My Identity!

Posted 2008-03-18 17:43:49 by admin at sproif.com

Being as internet-savvy as the next guy, I'm definitely the kind of person who hasn't written a check and mailed it in a long time. All my bills are paid online, all my bank statements are electronic. I really hate mail, not only for the earth-loving "but it wastes paper!" reason, but also [...]

How I Cope with (all this) Vista Business: Services

Posted 2008-03-18 02:23:07 by admin at sproif.com

I've already written about my Ubuntu install, although it's a little outdated, so I figured I might as well discuss what is my *cringe* main OS. I've done a bunch of tweaks, found things here or there, and have actually ended up making Vista (somewhat) live-able. I have enough information that this will [...]

Concert Review - What Made Milwaukee Famous, Louis XIV @ North Star

Posted 2008-03-15 21:07:52 by admin at sproif.com

No, that's not a question... And no, they're not from Milwaukee.. Wednesday night at the North Star Bar, a band with what can only be considered a strange name blew me away. I missed the opening band, "Los Dos Bros", and actually came in during WMMF's 2nd song. It was an all-ages show, which I [...]

Guitar Hero 3: Cult of Personality - Expert… Seriously?

Posted 2008-03-15 20:39:04 by admin at sproif.com

Wow.  I'm definitely stuck now.  I've made it through everything up to Cult of Personality, the encore song in the 2nd to last group on expert (well, except for the expert guitar battle vs. Slash, but who the hell can do that anyway?).  I can make it to the first mini solo in a full [...]

I recently downloaded Super Mario Bros (the original NES version) on the Wii Virtual Console and tried playing it again. I remember when I was little, there were people who could get infinite guys by jumping on a turtle on the stairs at the end of level 3-1. After searching for a while, [...]
