I really need to get the ball rolling with this thing. Here we go.
What drove me to this: fandom!secrets, the livejournal community that most people use to post about which fictional characters they think should do each other. One day I was incredibly weirded out by the fact that someone made one about being turned on by Professor Layton porn. Now, for those unfamiliar with Layton, it's an incredibly cutesy DS game about an old timey gentlemanly professor, Layton, and his adorable little apprentice, Luke, who go around figuring out the answers to puzzles and mysteries while everyone is a bunch of jerks to them for no real reason. It's pretty much the cutest thing ever. Which means that there's some raunchy as can be porn of it.
Now I didn't take it too seriously and foolishly posted a comment about how absurd it seemed. Well, Layton porn is very serious business as I learned when I was swamped by half a dozen people who were viciously defending it. Oh.
Expectations: I pretty much expected the worst with this one because the subject matter strikes me as so incredibly bizarre that I couldn't even believe it. The only two frequently recurring characters (to my knowledge) are Layton and Luke, so naturally I believed that there would be a lot of pedo porn involving Layton perving on Luke and taking advantage of the boy's canon trust in him.
The Adventure: Layton fanart is unusual. The game is not styled in a traditional "anime" way, but is rather French-looking. In other words, what you get from Layton fanart is a mixed bag of people trying to remain faithful to the original style (A lot of them actually do a great job!) and people who go all out with the whole "Layton is my bishie ^_____^" routine. Which tends to be awkward and not work. I actually took a few different sites to get the filthy ball rolling, but sure enough I encountered some porn fairly early in my adventure. Well, not really porn. Lots of copping feels and such, really.
Another item of interest was that there were details for the third game of the series that will allow people to put a rather interesting and potentially horribly disturbing spin on Layton series porn that I definitely plan on following in the future. I won't disclose it for the sake of spoilers.
I had about given up on super raunchy things until I unwittingly hopped on over to a site that was fairly unassuming: the banner was a picture of a toy robot, and the background of the site was some kind of strawberry dessert. I thought it looked more like your average blog than a place where I might find a gallery of freakish erotica. Boy, was I ever wrong. This site took the cake, which is perhaps why it had that strawberry dessert in the background. I found their Layton section and clicked the little ticks that indicated numbered drawings. Am I really seeing this, I thought. Before me sat a small collection of absolutely raunchy Layton-themed bondage/torture porn involving the two protagonists. Dear lord.
I thought that the adventure was over, but then I started trying to find information about the game's soundtrack and stumbled upon a stray livejournal entry. In it, some girl was excitedly chattering about how they had downloaded the Layton soundtrack and found crossover porn of Luke and Lucas from Mother 3. This was located by complete coincidence a few days later, when a friend who knew of my epic adventures sent me a link to a 4chan thread that contained three or so gems that I had missed, including this fabled crossover. It was absolutely baffling.
Who's perving on who: I like to assign roles to the characters in these things, which I have termed "the series rapist" and "the series rapee." I believe that these are self-explanatory. In the realm of Layton porn, things are pretty straightforward: Luke, the shota in the couple, is the series rapist, while Layton, the older and title character, is the rapee. This was entirely against my expectations, but the following sections will explain how this is actually the logical order of things.
How it compares to the source material: While the existence of Layton porn goes against the entire series in the first place, it makes even less sense when Luke and Layton are involved directly.
What really interests me is the fact that it actually seems like the illustrators paid attention to the original characterizations of those involved: Luke is indeed the more bold and assertive of the two, which logically would make him more likely to be the series rapist than Layton, who is much more laid back and tends to refrain from acting impulsively.
I'm going to kick this thing off by making a few brief statements about what exactly I'm trying to accomplish here and why.
How it all began
Blame it on LiveJournal. Fandom!Secrets, specifically, with their endless "I ship it!" posts. Every so often I'll see one that makes me stop for a minute and go "You can't be serious." I'm not even talking about the "Skeletor is the sexiest thing in the universe" ones, those are very obviously meant to be ridiculous and get a rise out of people. What I'm referring to are the ones that make me think "There is no conceivable way that this could realistically work out given the series canon." Upon investigating this phenomenon, I began to notice some peculiar patterns and found that often times artists and authors actually give a shocking amount of characterization details when drawing or writing smut.
My purpose here
I have made it a goal to locate and analyze as much fandom porn as possible. Each fandom post will consist of several sections including "expectations" and "points of interest along the way." I will also, of course, be comparing and contrasting various roles and patterns in fandom porn to the real characterization and events displayed in the original works.
This blog isn't about posting porn. It's about posting about porn. I want to make this as reasonably worksafe as possible.
